Saturday 13th January 2007 The George Tavern 373 Commercial Road Whitechapel London, E1 0LA From 8pm - 1am Entry £4 What The Moon Is Like Awkward, violent and unpredictable noise punctuated with moments of calm. Influences range from post-punk, to drones and the use of noise most commonly associated with jazz and avant-rock, with a constant emphasis on trying to create interesting and originally structured songs. The aim of the band is to create music that challenges the conventions of genre and song and share it with like minded people and artists. http://www.myspace.com/whatthemoonislike Nosferatu D2 "They could be young and naïve (they sound it, in a good way), old and jaded, or just very smart None of which matters". Damn Pest "This south London duo dound like post-rockers Mogwai reinterpreting choice moments from The Fall's illustrious back catalogue". NME http://www.myspace.com/nosferatud2 The Sailplanes 60% on slightly jarring noise, and 40% on the tunes. The Sailplanes are a band who live and breathe and recall what it used to mean to be an 'independent' band. Gunshot drumming, scratchy guitar, fuzz guitar, noise guitar is where it is at." Sean Tohellwith, Rashied Maps http://www.myspace.com/thesailplanes Amy Blue This music is completely out of place amongst the (dead) trends of R&B, Pop and Emo that most people seem to enjoy because they can't be bothered to try out a new band that hasn't been spoon-fed to them. You won't hear many songs about shooting up on the streets of Hackney, or one of those tracks with a 'yeah yeah yeah!' chorus. What you will hear are loud layered guitars, fresh talent and haphazardly mangled digital beats and textures. http://www.myspace.com/amyblue Pocus Whiteface The band recently described themselves as "Loud drums, loud bass, loud guitar, some shouting, no metal". They take their influences from bands like Shellac, Fugazi, mclusky, Tortoise and Sonic Youth. Apparently people hear a lot of The Fall in their stuff too. http://www.myspace.com/pocuswhiteface DJ Set from The Repton Oaks (The Repton Oaks is Rashied Garrison, star Maps Magazine journo) http://www.myspace.com/reptonoaks Gallery images from the first night |
